Sugar Rush

Curtain call of the 1000th performance!!!! Such a sweet day for all of us, especially for those of us who were around at the 100th performance back in January of 2010!

James Iglehart (Bobby) announced to the audience that Georgetown Cupcakes SOHO (as featured on the TLC show DC Cakes) was providing 1000 cupcakes for the audience to enjoy! We’re we ready to handle the crush of people?

All different flavors including red velvet and salted caramel. Delicious. Their New York store is located at 111 Mercer Street (between Spring and Prince). They even did a ticket giveaway in their store that morning and had a line of people waiting to order the Memphis cupcakes and a chance to win tickets to the show!

Cast Member, Andy Mills, holding the BC/EFA collection bucket is almost swallowed by the hungry crowd!

It was a beautiful day to celebrate 1000 performances in our beautiful home at the Shubert Theatre. FUN FACT: Previous tenant, A Chorus Line, ran for 6,137 performances. I wonder if they had as much fun as we did on our 1000th performance day?

This is what happens to Shubert Alley when you give away free cupcakes to a full house.

Georgetown cupcakes make waiting at the stage door so much better!

Ensemble Member, Cody Williams, is clearly enjoying the sugar rush of the stage door!

In addition to the cupcakes, we had a little more celebrating to do for Lead Producer, Marleen Alhadeff’s birthday. we surprised ambushed her in the stage manager’s office with some cake and a song during the intermission of the evening performance. BUCKET LIST: have the cast of MEMPHIS sing “Happy Birthday” to me because it is pretty epic. This year , my birthday falls on a Thursday so we will have a show. Perhaps I can make this happen.

MENTAL NOTE: It only takes ONE 9″ round cake to feed the company at intermission, not two. Good thing the mini-fridge in the Stage Manger’s office was able to store the extra cake to enjoy at the next performance.

What a day!! There’s more to come from the Memphis 1000 so stay tuned!

Happy Hocka1000!
